Musical Repertoire
Samyo's musical repertoire is constantly evolving. From its debut season
in 2002, the tour and performances have presented new experiences in
traditional and contemporary music for its audiences. Samyo’s
members, mean while, have called on their experiences of Western and
South Asian music to portray their adventures in music exploration.
Samyo aspires to share with its audiences the rich classical music from
the North and South Indian traditions. Musical pieces are specially
arranged in the Hindustani (North Indian) style as short performances,
elaborating on the Ragas.
Short Carnatic pieces are chosen from the rich repertoire of the various
composers from the traditional and the contemporary Carnatic music scene.
What is unique about Samyo's classical presentations is that the music
is played by the whole orchestra irrespective of Hindustani or Carnatic
tradition.
Samyo also commissions music by contemporary composers based in the
Indian Sub-continent. The contemporary sound of Britain is distinctly
heard through music specially created through workshops by British musicians
and composers.
Samyo aspires to present a unique platform to explore music inspired
by the Indian Sub-Continent in traditional and contemporary - both within
the Indian idiom and combining the Indian and the Western.
