Join Samyo
Who can join Samyo?
Musicians between the ages of 10 and 18 trained in Indian Classical Musical Samyo membership is open to students of Indian music between the ages of 8 and 18, permanently resident in the UK. You are welcome to apply, and will be selected on the basis of talent and potential. Your gender, background, religion or ethnicity do not influence your application in any way whatsoever.
What do I get as a member of Samyo?
The Samyo experience is unlike any other, and complements the training you receive from your own Indian music guru or teacher.
- Perform on a national tour with other young musicians from all over the UK.
- Explore combinations of North and South Indian Music styles, using improvisations and new technology to create new sounds.
- Work with top musical directors and composers of international repute.
Membership of Samyo gives you a host of other benefits, including the opportunity to attend other concerts of interest, limited complementary tickets for your family to attend Samyo performances and a place on the Summer Retreat.
Don’t forget – you'll also benefit from being a member of a National Youth Orchestra!
Tell me how to join!
The process of joining Samyo is easy. All you have to do is fill our our application form, that asks for details of your musical experience and learning, and your future ambitions in music. It helps us to understand more about you. Once you have made your written application, you may be invited to try out at the Spring Retreat Open Auditions, or the Summer Retreat.
Samyo also takes applications throughout the year, and selects members at open rehearsals in August and November each year.
Step One: Phone, email or write to us at the Samyo office. You can also find us on facebook or twitter (via our parent organisation Milapfest).
Step Two: Fill in your form on email or by hand, and post, email or fax it to us!
Step Three: Wait to see if your application passes
Step Four: If selected, join us at one of the open auditions during the year!
Step Five: Enjoy being a part of Europe’s only National South Asian Youth Orchestra.
Do I have to pay anything to be a part of Samyo?
Samyo membership is free, as you are part of a group of talented young musicians that we would like to support. In fact, we reimburse travel costs for attending rehearsals and most of our activities. We also want to make sure Samyo is available to anyone who has the talent and potential to benefit from orchestra membership. However, for the training we provide at the Summer Retreat, there is a charge for accommodation, travel & venue costs. We also charge a small amount for travel during our tour performances.
